Heritage & Restoration
Our skilled craftsmen use tradition skills and hand tools to restore and reproduce original ironwork on listed buildings.
Since our inception in 1969, Wrought Art has been involved in many restoration and renovation projects on listed buildings; and has considerable experience in repairing antique ornamental ironwork and re-creating historic designs for replacement gates and railings.
We prefer to be engaged early in the project so we can advise on practical options and help influence scope and design for the repair or replacement ironwork. We can provide documentation and sample panels to help support your Listed Building Application to the Local Planning Authority.
Our philosophy with vintage ironwork is always to try and restore using delicate and sympathetic repairs, however sometimes corrosion and general condition of old cast iron gates and railings means the only viable option is to manufacture replacements; so, we use modern mild steels but traditional skills to replicate designs of the original ironwork, which will last for the next hundred years or more.
